Monte Carlo's famous Casino, which was opened in 1863, has never been closed in all its 147 years! SBM have invested 40 million euros in a complete transformation.

Most of the work will be carried out in 2010. The aim of the renovation is to preserve all the legendary aspects of the Casino - its sumptuous decor and its historical importance - while giving it the modern touches clients now expect.

Work will be undertaken at the Casino from 22 May 2010 to 27 January 2011.

American architect Paul Steelman is in charge of the project to refurbish the 144 years old casino. While the work is being carried out, the gaming tables are moving to Sporting d'Ete, 7 of them in the open air to allow players to smoke (last year 3 smokers' tables took 60% of the sales). The slot machines won't be moved. Work on the 6000 m sq will take 8 months and the casino is scheduled to reopen on 27th January 2011.

But never fear, dear readers. We can still dream of winning big even in a makeshift casino, right?
